Black Students’ Association Discussion: "Can’t relate? You are not alone. We are here."

Can't relate? You are not alone. We are here.

3:30 PM
Student Lounge, Sir James Dunn Hall
All are welcome.

Join the Black Students’ Association for a discussion on the importance of representation in the classroom. Three 91Å·ÃÀ¾«Æ· professors will speak about their experiences being Black students and scholars.

Most 91Å·ÃÀ¾«Æ·dents do not have to look far to find a professor who looks like them while some do. At the same time, an increase in representation in the classroom is associated with the positive scholarship and growth of marginalized students.

With this in mind, the St. Thomas University Black Students’ Association is pleased to share that Dr. Marvin Claybourn (Department of Psychology), Dr. Fikru Gebrekidan (Department of History), and Dr. Christian Mbarga (Department of Romance Languages) have graciously accepted our invitation to speak on their experiences being Black students and scholars.

The discussion will be held Wednesday, February 22 at 3:30 pm in the Student Lounge in Sir James Dunn Hall. It will be moderated by Quintina Northrup of the Black Students Association.

Everyone is welcome! We invite all students, staff, and faculty to attend as it is also important for white students, staff, and faculty to know who our racialized professors are and to recognize the possibilities that come with having a diverse faculty.
